The Mariinsky Theatre is undertaking a major tour of countries in the Asia-Pacific region |
On 21 November the Mariinsky Theatre will commence a major tour of the Asia-Pacific region with the ballet The Sleeping Beauty in Beijing. Over three weeks the St Petersburg company will be appearing at major venues in the Democratic People's Republic of China, Japan and South Korea, as well as giving concerts at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok. The tour ends on 13 December in Seoul

Valery Gergiev has been awarded the Order of Sts Cyril and Methodius, first class |
On 3 October Bulgarian President Rumen Radev awarded Valery Gergiev one of the country's highest honours – the Order of Sts Cyril and Methodius, first class. In the decree relating to the bestowing of the order it is stated that the maestro has been presented with the award for his tremendous personal contribution to the development of Russo-Bulgarian cultural relations

From 23 to 29 September, Vladikavkaz will host the I International Caucasus festival The Mariinsky – Vladikavkaz. The venue for this new forum will be the Mariinsky Theatre's branch in Vladikavkaz, the State Academic Philharmonic of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and the National State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania

The XXII Gergiev Festival opens in Rotterdam |
From 14 to 17 September Rotterdam will host the twenty-second Gergiev Festival of music. The De Doelen concert hall will see Valery Geregiev conduct the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Orchestra and the combined Youth Orchestra of the Codarts University of the Arts and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague. Other participants are to include the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, violinist Liza Ferschtman (The Netherlands) and pianist Ole Christian Haagenrud (Norway), who will present chamber music programmes at the festival

The Münchner Philharmoniker and Valery Gergiev traditionally open the new season with a series of performances on tour. In September the ensemble will visit Austria and Romania before setting off for Munich to give their first performances of the 2017-18 season at the ensemble's home venue
