Sergey Vladimirovich Mazanov - the Chief of the Charitable Foundation
One of the most significant tasks of the Foundation is to promote the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Hall, which celebrated its tenth birthday in 2016, hosts concerts by international stars, such as Anna Netrebko, Placido Domingo, Denis Matsuev, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Rene Pape, Nikolaj Znaider, Yuri Bashmet, Lang Lang, Leonidas Kavakos, Bryn Terfel, Natalie Dessay, Renee Fleming, Maxim Vengerov, Willard White, and a great number of other performers.
It is also the site where state-of-the-art recording technology is used to record discs under the Mariinsky label which was set up in the spring of 2009 on the initiative of Maestro Valery Gergiev.
An important stage in the promotion of the Concert Hall as a “unique musical instrument” is the construction of an additional set of buildings — the South and North wings that form a single architectural composition with the Hall’s main building. The new wings will significantly expand the ways in which the Concert Hall functions, providing musicians with dressing rooms and canteens, a SPA with a swimming pool, and rehearsal and conference spaces, while the audience will get a new spacious cafe and a music shop. The Foundation also helps organise Mariinsky Theatre tours in Russia and abroad, and is the key participant in the country’s major cultural events, such as the Stars of the White Nights Music Festival — one of the world’s top ten festivals according to international press — and the Moscow Easter Festival.
A significant part of the Foundation’s activities focuses on supporting young artists, ensembles and talented Russian performers, helping them receive professional education, and organising pro bono performances for children and students in order to attract a new young audience; the Foundation also organises charity concerts whose proceeds go to those in need.
We would like to thank all our friends and partners for their ongoing support and reliable contribution!
