On 11 September 2017 at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre a concert by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev marks the opening of the 2017-18 season. The programme includes works by Alexander Mosolova and Anton Bruckner. On 12 September the season at the Mariinsky-II opens with Francesco Cilea's opera Adriana Lecouvreur, one of the most dazzling premieres of the most recent XXV Stars of the White Nights international festival. The lead roles are to be performed by Tatiana Serjan (Adriana Lecouvreur), Yulia Matochkina (the Princess de Bouillon), Najmiddin Mavlyanov (Maurice de Saxe), Dmitry Grigoriev (the Prince de Bouillon), Alexander Mikhailov (the Abbé de Chazeuil) and Alexei Markov (Michonnet). The historic Mariinsky Theatre opens the 235th season with Adolphe Adam's ballet Giselle with choreography by Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa (23 September). Performances of Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Cinderella staged by Alexei Ratmansky will mark the ballet company's first performances on the eve of the new season (6 and 7 September). There will also be ballet evenings (9 and 10 September). In the first half on both days there will be a performance of Georges Bizet – Rodion Shchedrin's ballet Carmen-Suite with choreography by Alberto Alonso. The programme for the evening on 9 September will continue with Michel Fokine's ballet Carnaval to music by Robert Schumann, while on 10 September the second half will feature the scene Le Jardin animé from the ballet Le Corsaire. On the eve of the opening of the season at the Mariinsky-II there will be a performance by The Beijing Sunshine Art Delegation (8 September). The programme includes songs and dances of the Chinese peoples, songs by Alexander Alexandrov, Matvei Blanter and Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi. |
