Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra and Opera soloists have been nominated for a Grammy award in the category "Best Opera Recording" for their performance of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's opera The Golden Cockerel. The recording of the opera The Golden Cockerel was released on DVD and in Blu-ray format on the Mariinsky label in May 2017 (Sound Producer – Ilya Petrov). The video recording was produced at the Mariinsky II during the first performances of Anna Matison's production in December 2014. The lead roles were performed by Vladimir Feliauer (Tsar Dodon), Aida Garifullina (the Queen of Shemakha), Andrei Serov (General Polkan), Andrei Ilyushnikov (Tsarevich Gvidon), Vladislav Sulimsky (Tsarevich Afron) and Andrei Petrov (the Astrologer). The Mariinsky Orchestra was conducted by Valery Gergiev. Nominees in the category "Best Opera Recording" also include Hans Graf and the Houston Symphony Orchestra (Alban Berg's Wozzeck), the orchestra Il pomo d'oro conducted by George Petrou (Ottone, re di Germania by George Frideric Handel), while the Metropolitan Opera has been nominated in two categories – for its recording of Alban Berg's opera Lulu under Lothar Koenigs and Georges Bizet's opera Les Pêcheurs de perles conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. The 60th Grammy awards ceremony will take place in New York on 28 January 2018. |
